Leigh Community Choir is delighted to announce that, due to the hard work and dedication of members Elaine and Steve, with invaluable support from Wigan Borough Communities Team, the choir has been successful in obtaining a grant of £14035 from The National Lottery Community Fund.
This grant will allow us to continue to develop and grow, and will ensure the future of the choir by allowing us to continue to bring the joy of acappella singing to our members and the wider community.
The National Lottery funding will foster our musical ambitions by paying for development activities like additional coaching and workshops, audio equipment to support performances in the local area, and participation in music festivals and other events. In the spirit of community, the award will enable the choir to cover running costs like room hire, sheet music and audio tracks without placing additional financial demands on members, who currently pay a competitive £3.50 a session, or a flat monthly fee of £12.
Our chair, Ellie, says: “The award opens new opportunities for us as a choir at the heart of the local community. Thanks to National Lottery players we can build on our success to date, proving that an inclusive, non-auditioning community choir can achieve great things musically while remaining a place we all come to for a sense of belonging and a break from personal pressures.”
If you are interested in joining our welcoming and friendly group then come along to one of our Wednesday evening rehearsals and give us a try - first session is free. We rehearse in Leigh Library from 7.15pm - 9.15pm and would love to see you there!
