Summer 2025

Leigh Community Choir has been out and about twice this Summer and the sun came out both days! On Saturday 26th July, we were invited to perform at our first Pride in Leigh at Pennington Hall Park. We added a touch of rainbow to our uniform and entertained the crowd who were relaxing on the bowling green. Leigh Community Choir is proud to support the local LGBTQ community. Two weeks later on Saturday 9th August, we were at The Astley Show in Lancashire Mining Museum followed by a 'flash mob' appearance, next door at The Boathouse. Thank you to the organisers for inviting us to support this very well attended local event. |
10th Anniversary Concert

A wonderful concert was held on 18th June to celebrate Leigh Community Choir's 10th anniversary year. St Peter's Church, Westleigh was full to standing with family, friends and special guests, including various Councillors from our local area. We performed two sets, incuding first time performances of two new arrangements - For Good, from the musical Wicked and Reach For The Stars, an S Club classic! We were well supported by our amazing guest artists, Phil Makins, a classical guitarist and well known local duo, The Trinity Brothers (John and Craig). To celebrate the occasion, Leigh Community Choir performed in new, royal blue t-shirts. A great night, and the ladies from St Peter's were the perfect hosts - thank you! |
International Women's Day - Soroptimist International

A Springtime Sing Out and Some Sensational Soroptimists Leigh Community Choir Celebrates International Women’s Day We were delighted to be invited by Soroptimist International (Leigh and District) to support their Women for Women Showcase which was held at Pennington Wharf Community Hub in Leigh on Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day. There was a wide range of stalls exhibiting goods and services offered by local charities as well as community groups sharing information on what they do and how people can become involved. The choir was happy to have our own table which enabled us to chat with many local women and girls, and encourage them to give singing a try. The table also provided an excellent place to sample some of the gorgeous cakes that were on offer! We performed a mix of songs which included folk and pop, and had the chance to premiere our latest number, an a cappella arrangement of the 90s pop classic “Angels” by Robbie Williams. Also, we know that you shouldn’t really have favourites, but if we did happen to have a current one, it might just be Billy Joel’s “Longest Time” which was sung with much enthusiasm and flare. It is always a privilege to be asked to be a part of such important community events and we were verry touched to have Wigan Council describe our performance as “entertaining, moving and uplifting”. As well as the joy we all find in being part of the choir, comments like this mean a lot and we are happy to be able to have such a positive impact on those who come to hear us. If you would like to be involved in what we do, or simply find out more, then please do contact us using the details on our website, or come along to one of our rehearsals to see and hear for yourself, we would love to welcome you. |
Christmas 2024

The Christmas season was a busy time for Leigh Community Choir. We were out and about at various local events, including at Pennington FC, Leigh Markets and Bents. A few singers also popped down to Westleigh Lodge to entertain the residents, who enthusiastically joined in the singing. It is always a pleasure to team up with Bedford High School, so we were grateful for the invitation to be guest singers at their Christmas concert. It was particularly enjoyable to join with the students for the finale song, Tom Fletcher's 'Afraid Of Heights'. |
Summer 2024

It was a busy but enjoyable Summer season for the singers of Leigh Community Choir who were out and about supporting local events. In late June, we gathered in Civic Square to contribute to the Armed Forces Day celebrations alongside other local acts. The following weekend we were invited to sing at the Lancashire Mining Museum as visitors toured this historic site. Our members also enjoyed listening to the ukulele band and the brass band whilst socialising in the sun - nice refreshments too! Later in July, Leigh Community Choir was privileged to sing at the opening of the Veteran's Hub at Spinners Mill. Some important guests were in attendance, including MP Jo Platt and Diane Hawkins, the Lord- Lieutenant of Greater Manchester - both complimentary of our singing. To round off the Summer, we were back in Civic Square for Leigh Food Festival alongside other local acts, including our friends from Bedford High School.

Spring 2024

In the early months of 2024, Leigh Community Choir was hard at work preparing a new set of songs for a concert at Leigh Parish Church on 18th March. It was a first outing for 'Half The World Away', the feel good theme tune of The Royle Family. The programme also included a selection of soloists, including Jack (see photo) who sang 'Fields of Gold' by Sting. The audience also particularly enjoyed 'Blackbird' by George Harrison, sung by Abby, Ellie and Carrie. Late Spring was all about Leigh Choir Festival, a collaboration between Leigh Community Choir and Bedford High School. We were also joined for the day by our friends from Cleveleys, The Coasters. As well as a performance by each choir to close the festival, earlier in the day, singers also took part in two workshops led by Winnie Kibula, a former LCC member, and by a very special guest - Jennifer John, from Liverpool who taught us one of her own compositions.
