A 10th Anniversary Gift And A Fabulous Future Ahead

Leigh Community Choir is delighted to announce that, due to the hard work and dedication of members Elaine and Steve, with invaluable support from Wigan Borough Communities Team, the choir has been successful in obtaining a grant of £14035 from The National Lottery Community Fund. This grant will allow us to continue to develop and grow, and will ensure the future of the choir by allowing us to continue to bring the joy of acappella singing to our members and the wider community. The National Lottery funding will foster our musical ambitions by paying for development activities like additional coaching and workshops, audio equipment to support performances in the local area, and participation in music festivals and other events. In the spirit of community, the award will enable the choir to cover running costs like room hire, sheet music and audio tracks without placing additional financial demands on members, who currently pay a competitive £3.50 a session, or a flat monthly fee of £12. Our chair, Ellie, says: “The award opens new opportunities for us as a choir at the heart of the local community. Thanks to National Lottery players we can build on our success to date, proving that an inclusive, non-auditioning community choir can achieve great things musically while remaining a place we all come to for a sense of belonging and a break from personal pressures.” If you are interested in joining our welcoming and friendly group then come along to one of our Wednesday evening rehearsals and give us a try - first session is free. We rehearse in Leigh Library from 7.15pm - 9.15pm and would love to see you there! |
Christmas 2025

| Another busy Christmas has been and gone! Leigh Community Choir was out and about in the community throughout December, adding some Christmas cheer to local events. This year we sung at: - St Joseph's Christmas Fayre - Morrison's - Leigh Market - Asda - Westleigh Lodge - the Wigan & Leigh Carer's Centre All good festive fun and we raised £270+ for choir funds! Thankyou to all who dropped a few coins in our bucket. |
Autumn 2025

| New members continued to join Leigh Community Choir as we headed into a new year of singing in September, boosting our number on roll to 60+. New songs were added to the reperoire too, including 'Tell Me It's Not True' from the musical Blood Brothers, and the Take That classic, 'The Flood'. Leigh Community Choir performed at two important events in November. First up was the Frost Festival/ Light Up Leigh event organised by Wigan Council. We performed a 20 minute set on Spinnigate car park, entertaining stall holders and shoppers who had gathered for the early entertainment before the parade. On 25th November, we were privileged to be asked by Soroptimist Internation Leigh & District to support the 'Orange The World' event at Leigh Parish Church. The service marked International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Other performers on the night included The Paperback Writers, The Wordsmiths and Corrie Shelley. The display of orange flowers represented the number of cases of domestic violence reported each day in England and Wales. We were very pleased with our first public performance of Sam Smith's 'Writing's On The Wall'. It was partcularly effective in the church acoustics. |
Summer 2025

| Leigh Community Choir has been out and about twice this Summer and the sun came out both days! On Saturday 26th July, we were invited to perform at our first Pride in Leigh at Pennington Hall Park. We added a touch of rainbow to our uniform and entertained the crowd who were relaxing on the bowling green. Leigh Community Choir is proud to support the local LGBTQ community. Two weeks later on Saturday 9th August, we were at The Astley Show in Lancashire Mining Museum followed by a 'flash mob' appearance, next door at The Boathouse. Thank you to the organisers for inviting us to support this very well attended local event. |
10th Anniversary Concert

| A wonderful concert was held on 18th June to celebrate Leigh Community Choir's 10th anniversary year. St Peter's Church, Westleigh was full to standing with family, friends and special guests, including various Councillors from our local area. We performed two sets, incuding first time performances of two new arrangements - For Good, from the musical Wicked and Reach For The Stars, an S Club classic! We were well supported by our amazing guest artists, Phil Makins, a classical guitarist and well known local duo, The Trinity Brothers (John and Craig). To celebrate the occasion, Leigh Community Choir performed in new, royal blue t-shirts. A great night, and the ladies from St Peter's were the perfect hosts - thank you! |
International Women's Day - Soroptimist International

A Springtime Sing Out and Some Sensational Soroptimists Leigh Community Choir Celebrates International Women’s Day We were delighted to be invited by Soroptimist International (Leigh and District) to support their Women for Women Showcase which was held at Pennington Wharf Community Hub in Leigh on Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day. There was a wide range of stalls exhibiting goods and services offered by local charities as well as community groups sharing information on what they do and how people can become involved. The choir was happy to have our own table which enabled us to chat with many local women and girls, and encourage them to give singing a try. The table also provided an excellent place to sample some of the gorgeous cakes that were on offer! We performed a mix of songs which included folk and pop, and had the chance to premiere our latest number, an a cappella arrangement of the 90s pop classic “Angels” by Robbie Williams. Also, we know that you shouldn’t really have favourites, but if we did happen to have a current one, it might just be Billy Joel’s “Longest Time” which was sung with much enthusiasm and flare. It is always a privilege to be asked to be a part of such important community events and we were verry touched to have Wigan Council describe our performance as “entertaining, moving and uplifting”. As well as the joy we all find in being part of the choir, comments like this mean a lot and we are happy to be able to have such a positive impact on those who come to hear us. If you would like to be involved in what we do, or simply find out more, then please do contact us using the details on our website, or come along to one of our rehearsals to see and hear for yourself, we would love to welcome you. |
